Spring Training
With Spring trail races sneaking up on us it is time to get some miles in and work of the holiday pounds. Getting off road distance is not a challenge this time of year, getting any significant elevation can be though. I headed out with the Port Moody run clinic leaders today and we ran a favourite route of mine: up Eagle Ridge to Physiotherapy and Mossom Creek trails, down to Buntzen Lake and back. It offers about 20km of distance and almost 900 metres of vertical gain.
I figured that most of the December snow would have melted off and most of the trail would have been runnable. Nope. There was anywhere from 6-8″ of crusty snow that made the trail difficult to follow and difficult to walk on. The trails have also been hard hit by fallen and uprooted trees.
The first major race for me this season is going to be the Dirty Duo in March. I guess it is going to be some lower elevation training running and biking for the next little while.
